We run three 4wd survey vehicles and one AgMax UTV for data collection and soil coring. Each vehicle is fully equipped with John Deere Starfire RTK GPS guidance, DualEM 1s (0.5m and 1m depths) or 21S (0.5m, 0.75m, 1.5m and 3m depths) and Radiation Solutions RS1 gamma radiometric sensor. Two 4wd vehicle are equipped with a hydraulic soil corer capable of soil coring to depth one, and we have a trailer-mounted 2m corer.
We use Precision Cropping Technologies‘ Vision Ag Gateway software, TerraLogga and RadAssist which, when linked with GPS, allow us to simultaneously collect georeferenced EM and Gamma radiometric data. We then use the VA Gateway Field Viewer module with GPS to accurately locate ground truthing (soil coring) sites in the paddock.
This combination of equipment allows effective monitoring of all spatial information collected (including yield and biomass data) and assessment of variable rate applications through strip trial monitoring.
